NSW Breakers and Sydney Sixers star Ashleigh Gardner has won two of nine individual and team awards for the 2022-23 Cricket Australia State Cricket Awards following a memorable domestic season.
Gardner won her third Lord’s Taverners Indigenous Cricketer of the Year Award following her remarkable performances over the past 12 months.
The Player of the Tournament at the 2023 ICC T20 World Cup, Gardner was an integral part of Australia’s women’s team which secured a record sixth T20 title in South Africa.
A match-winning five wicket haul against New Zealand in Australia’s opening game set the tone for the tournament, while she was instrumental with both bat and ball in the Final against South Africa at Newlands.
The Sydney Sixer was also named the Weber WBBL|08 Player of the Tournament and scored 339 runs at an average of 28.25 to go with 23 wickets from 15 matches.
Gardner previously took out the Lord’s Taverners Indigenous Cricketer of the Year Award in the 2014-15 and 2019-20 seasons.
CA Head of Cricket Operations, Peter Roach, said:
“The 2022-23 domestic season has been a great success and we congratulate all award winners on their outstanding performances.
“It is timely to say a big thank you to all players, coaches, support staff, match officials and administration staff who all came together to ensure that we had strong, competitive and vibrant domestic competitions – competitions that have always been and will always be vital to Australia presenting strong national teams.”
“We also extend our thanks to all our partners including Marsh, Foxtel and Kayo Sports for their ongoing support of domestic cricket.”
In addition to the aforementioned awards, CA would like to again congratulate the previously announced winners of this season’s awards.
