While no horse in the 2023 Belmont Stakes field is expected to challenge Secretariat’s track record of 2:24.00, Forte could be the center of attention. After withdrawing from the Kentucky Derby and subsequently missing the Preakness due to veterinary precautions, he’ll get one last shot at Triple Crown glory on Saturday, June 10 at the Belmont Stakes 2023. Forte has long been considered the strongest runner in this year’s class of three-year-olds, but he’ll only have one more shot to show it in the national spotlight. His reputation has fueled his status as the 3-1 favorite in the 2023 Belmont Stakes odds, but he’ll also be coming off a two-month layoff.
Despite the inactivity, Forte is still the top choice among 2023 Belmont Stakes horses like National Treasure (6-1), Angel of Empire (4-1) and Tapit Trice (7-2). The 2023 Belmont Stakes post time is 6:50 p.m. ET. Before locking in any 2023 Belmont Stakes picks, be sure to see the horse racing predictions from SportsLine’s Jody Demling, given his dominant Belmont track record.
A fixture in the horse racing world who has been writing about, talking about and betting on races for years, Demling nailed the winner, trifecta and superfecta in the 2023 Preakness Stakes. Demling also enters the Belmont Stakes 2023 having nailed the winner of the final Triple Crown race four of the last five years, including an exacta in 2022 with Mo Donegal and Nest. He also called Flightline’s win at the Breeders’ Cup Classic last November.
Additionally, he has hit 10 of the last 15 Derby-Oaks doubles at Churchill Downs. That means he held a ticket with the winners of both races all but five times in the last 15 tries. Anybody following him in those races saw huge returns.
Now, with the 2023 Belmont Stakes approaching, Demling is sharing his horse racing picks and predictions over at SportsLine. Go here to see them.
For the 2023 Belmont Stakes, Demling is fading Tapit Trice, even though he’s one of the top favorites at 7-2. The gray colt has the second-lowest odds to win the 2023 Belmont Stakes, but he is coming off one of his weakest showings after finishing seventh in the Kentucky Derby. Tapit Trice typically runs as a stalker, but he faded towards the back at the first turn in the Kentucky Derby and was never a true factor to win.
Although Tapit Trice has one of the best trainers in the business, trainer Todd Pletcher’s attention could be split with Forte. There are reasons to like Tapit Trice, but that has also driven up his price. See who else to fade here.
Another stunner: Demling is high on Red Route One in the Belmont Stakes 2023, even though he’s a 20-1 longshot. He’s a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Although his recent results and odds ahead of the Belmont 2023 don’t seem encouraging, he has the pedigree to bounce back in a big way at Elmont.
Red Route One was sired by Gun Runner, who finished third in the 2016 Kentucky Derby and closed out his career with multiple wins on mile-and-a-quarter tracks. While that’s not quite the 1.5-mile run the Belmont features, it’s more than the typical mile-and-an-eighth of most other races. Additionally, Red Route One is part of Tapit’s prolific progeny that has produced four other Belmont Stakes champions, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that he rises up for a strong finish and a big win in this year’s Test of the Champion. See who else to back here.
Instead, Demling is also high on a double-digit longshot who has “looked sharp in his return to the track.” Anyone who backs this horse could hit it big. Demling is sharing which horse it is, along with his entire projected leaderboard, over at SportsLine.
Who wins the Belmont Stakes 2023? And which huge double-digit longshot is a must-back? Check out the latest 2023 Belmont Stakes odds below, then visit SportsLine to see Demling’s picks for the 2023 Belmont Stakes, all from the expert who nailed the winner, trifecta and superfecta at the Preakness and has called four of the last five Belmont winners.
