The final weekend of the 2023 NCAA Tournament has arrived as Final Four action tips just after 6 p.m. ET from Houston, Texas, on Saturday. The first of the day’s doubleheader will tip off with two first-time participants taking the stage as No. 5 seed San Diego State and No. 9 seed FAU face off for the right to play either No. 4 seed UConn or No. 5 seed Miami on Monday night for the championship.
Three weeks ago, FAU had zero NCAA Tournament wins in program history before marching through the month first with a Conference USA Tournament title then four-straight NCAA Tournament wins to earn its first Final Four berth in school history. The Owls have a program-best 35 wins on the season already, and two more could add to the legacy of what is already entrenched as the best team they’ve ever fielded.
San Diego State is looking to avenge fate after the NCAA Tournament was canceled in 2020 on the heels of one of the best seasons in school history. Armed with the best 3-point defense in college hoops, SDSU’s physically imposing style contrasts brilliantly with FAU’s run-and-fun system, which should make this one of the best matchups in this tournament.
