#9 – Umetini @ $4.80
Umetini ran fifth on debut at Warrnambool, which was a solid introduction to racing.
The three-year-old filly by Just a Way has been well-backed to win on Wednesday, which is a positive sign.
Having John Allen in the saddle helps her cause.
#1 – Prince Ziggy @ $5.50
Prince Ziggy comes off an overdue win at Sandown, so we fancy his chances of winning again.
The nine-year-old has the form on the board and the experience. He has yet to win on this track, but he won his only start over the distance.
Getting 1.5kg off his back helps and punters get each-way odds.
#9 – Final Overture @ $7.50
Final Overture is only a one-race winner from five starts, but the stable is firing, and this isn’t an overly strong field.
The Browne-trained three-year-old won at Mornington in heavy conditions last year, so we think he can get back to that form.
Barrier two is ideal and punters get odds worth snapping up.
#2 – Orange Ears @ $5
Orange Ears has rattled off three consecutive wins and she’s worth sticking with at this level.
The four-year-old mare won at Benalla, Wodonga, and Wangaratta, with the most recent coming narrowly against a tidy field.
Getting 3kg off her back is ideal and we thought bookmakers would have her shorter in the market, so take the value.
#2 – Smashing Eagle @ $3.40
Smashing Eagle looked the goods when winning at Bendigo fresh up before not handling racing at The Valley.
The Hawkes-trained son of Shalaa won at Bendigo by four lengths, so he has class, and we’re not surprised by the betting move.
He opened at $3.90, so it could pay to follow the money.
#4 – Alchian @ $5
With two wins and two placings from 10 starts, Alchian is a runner worth following.
The three-year-old son of Churchill comes off a second placing at The Valley, and that form should hold up nicely.
Despite his odds drifting throughout the week, he is a solid each-way bet.
#2 – Helix @ $4.20
The three-year-old hasn’t done much wrong to date, including two starts for a win and a second placing.
He won on debut at Pakenham by 2.5 lengths before finishing a half-length behind the impressive Marble Arch. That’s an excellent form guide for this race.
Bookmakers haven’t respected him enough, so we’re happy to take the odds.
#16 – Unusual Culture @ $4.80
Unusual Culture capped off consecutive placings with a win at Sandown, so she is worth following.
The four-year-old mare by Unusual Suspect owns two wins and five placings from 10 starts, including two over the distance.
Barrier three is ideal and punters get value each-way odds for the favourite.
