A team of Detective Branch of police arrested six leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League-backed Bangladesh Chhatra League for their alleged involvement in online gambling in Uttarpara area of Gangni upazila in Meherpur early Wednesday.
The arrested are Meherpur district BCL unit former vice-president Shahiduzzaman, the unit activists Rabiul Islam, Jubayer Hossain, Bipul Hossain, Chanchal and Ziaur Rahman.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of the Meherpur police and the DB police conducted a drive in the area and arrested the six BCL men while they were making preparations to gamble online at about 1:00am, Meherpur police station officer-in-charge Abdur Razzaque said.
The police also recovered fourteen pieces of mobile phones from their possession, the OC added.
