Today is 84 days until kickoff. No. 84 will be worn for the Longhorns this season by Reece Beauchamp, a sophomore wide receiver. Plus, how Longhorn 2023 signees fared in track and field.
2023 class on the track
In honor of Marquise Goodwin, Inside Texas takes a look at how the 2023 class fared on the track before they arrived on the Forty Acres. All times are via Athletic.net
Arch Manning: Manning ran a 12.09 100m during the 2021 outdoor season and high jumped 5 feet 8 inches for Isidore Newman.
Anthony Hill: During the 2022 outdoor season, Hill ran a 11.45 100m, a 23.18 200m, and also participated in the 4×100 and 4×200.
Johntay Cook: Cook was part of the storied DeSoto track program. His personal records include a 5 foot 6 inch high jump in 2020, a 22-10 long jump in 2022, and a 43-3.25 triple jump in 2021.
Malik Muhammad: Muhammad had personal records of 5 foot 6 inches in the high jump, 18-8.5 in the long jump, and 43-6.5 in the triple jump in the 2022 season.
Ryan Niblett: During the 2023 outdoor season, Niblett ran an 11.07 100m, well off his personal record of 10.41 run with a +3.6 m/s wind in 2022. He ran a 21.25 200m in 2022, also run in a +3.9 m/s wind. He participated in the 4×100 and 4×200 relay, and was a state finalist in the long jump. His personal record in the event was set during the 2023 season, a 23-8.5 mark. He also notched a 46-8 personal record in 2023.
Jelani McDonald: McDonald won the 4A triple jump title in 2022 with a jump of 48-2. He high-jumped 6-6 in 2023 and triple jumped 47-9. He also participated in the long jump and several relays.
Colton Vasek: Personal records in the shot put of 49-9 and in the discus of 136-4 were recorded by the Longhorn legacy in the 2022 season.
DeAndre Moore Jr.: Moore Jr. ran a 10.9 personal record in the 100m.
Derion Gullette: Gullette’s personal records include a 22.63 in the 200m, a 1:02.14 in the 400m, 53-6.75 in the shot put, 101-10 in the discus, and 22-8.5 in the long jump
Jaydon Chatman: A 48-6.5 in the shot put was Chatman’s personal record, set in 2022.
Warren Roberson: A 10.96 in the 100m, a 23.4 in the 200m are on Roberson’s records.
Trevor Goosby: Goosby was a state finalist in the shot put in 2023. His personal record is 57-8.25. He posted a 149-1 in the discuss in the most recent track season, too.
Liona Lefau: Lefau recorded a 12.62 100m in 2020.
Connor Stroh: PRs in the shot put of 40-1.5 and in the discus of 135-10 were recorded in the 2022 season.
Andre Cojoe: Cojoe recorded a 41-4 in the shot put and a 87-4.5 in the discus in 2022.
Reece Beauchamp 2023 season outlook
Beauchamp did not see any action last season as a walk-on freshman. He was a member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll (fall 2022). Beauchamp is likely to be a contributor on the scout team.
Goodwin, a world-class track and field athlete and Olympian, played in 50 career games, including 22 starts at wide receiver, during his four years on 40 Acres. He ended his career ranked 11th on the Texas all-time receptions list (120), sixth on the kickoff return yards chart (985) and fourth in KOR attempts (44) and amassed 2,776 career all-purpose yards.
