Small habits pave the way for big lifestyle changes. Instead of waking up and deciding to run at 7 in the morning, you can make a small change of waking up one hour earlier. Similarly, instead of checking your phone first thing in the morning, you can dedicate that time to yourself instead, says Alia Bhatt and Ananya Panday‘s yoga trainer Anshuka Parwani.
Taking to Instagram, Parwani shared five simple yoga asanas that you should practice everyday in order to start or resume your fitness journey, or simply to start the day on a positive note. She wrote in the caption: “Once you get up, roll out your mat (or practice on the bed) and try these Yoga Asanas you can do everyday.”
These are the asanas she suggested:
Butterfly
For this pose, sit erect with your spine long and straight, bend your knees and bring your feet towards the pelvis. Then, hold on to the tops of your feet with both your hands, and flutter the knees like a butterfly.
Viparita Karani
This simple pose can be performed by lying down close to a wall. Rest your legs against the wall, and spread out your hands in a ‘T’.
Bhujangasana
Also known as the cobra pose, Bhujangasana can be performed by lying down on your stomach with your legs straight. Keep your palms next to your chest, and push your upper body off the floor as much as you can.
Pavanamuktasana
Lie down on the floor, and simply bring your legs close to your chest, and hug them tight.
Ardha Matsyendrasana
Sit with your legs straight out in front of you, then bend one knee, and twist your body, resting the biceps of the other arms against the bent leg.
Parwani says that “this will help you physically and mentally, boost your energy levels and metabolism, reduce anxiety and increase your focus to face the day ahead. It’s all about cultivating a healthy habit and making it a part of your daily routine.”
