STABLE TO FOLLOW
Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott are riding the crest of a winning wave boasting eight winners from just 23 runners in December.
RACE 1
Jack Duggan is a US-bred former European galloper now at his second home in Australia with Newcastle conditioner Jason Deamer. His new trainer has the son of Jack Milton racing in career-best form with wins at Quirindi and Gosford followed by a sixth in Midway grade at Rosehill. This is easier than his last assignment. Youthfull made it two wins from four starts this preparation with a Gosford victory last time. She is a mare on the up but has to overcome the tricky draw. Daysan is better than he showed when failing to beat a runner home at Warwick Farm. Loves this trip and can bounce back.
Bet: Jack Duggan to win.
RACE 2
Oakfield Redgum is a veteran of eight starts for a win and three placings but Wednesday will be his first hit-out on home turf. The Wyong galloper has been around the mark in three runs this preparation and should be battle hardened by the outings. A winner at the same stage of his prep last time. The in-form John O‘Shea yard will call upon J-Mac to pilot last-start Kembla winner Master Copy. A son of Belardo, the promising type can run well again as he makes the often tricky step from maiden grade into a Class 1. Portnoy blew out the cobwebs in his fresh run at Hawkesbury and has scope for improvement second up from a break.
Bet: Oakfield Redgum to win.
RACE 3
Mr Wallace is out of multiple Group 1 winner Streama, and while he’s yet to show the talent of his star mum, a victory isn’t far away. The finest of margins prevented him from breaking his duck at Wyong last time over 1200m. He’s drawn well and the step up in trip to 1350m should suit him nicely – mum was an ATC Oaks winner. Nullify is proving a costly commodity for punters. She’s yet to win in 16 starts but placed in half of those and keeps earning cheques. Wild Irish Rover wasn’t far away first up after showing plenty of promise at the trials. Wide draw the obvious concern.
Bet: Mr Wallace to win.
RACE 4
A pair of decent trial efforts should have Resonator ready to go first-up. The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained gelding won back-to-back races on heavy ground last prep before failing to run up to expectation when favourite in the Group 1 JJ Atkins. Appears to have returned in good order. Will roll forward and take running down. Hell I Am won three out of seven and returns on the back of one trial. Class runner, drawn out. John O’Shea-trained stablemate Shalailed is back in Sydney after a pair of stakes placing in Melbourne. Back on dry ground too. Sneaky Paige certainly good enough from a strong draw.
Bet: Resonator to win.
RACE 5
Gregory McFarlane has three acceptors here and Alibi Dot Com looks the best of them. Has finished runner-up at her past two at Port Macquarie and Gosford. There was clear evidence that Alibi Dot Com should have finished closer last start after she was held up at a crucial moment in the straight. Drawn well to go one better this time. I‘ll Tell You Now has been racing well with wins at Gundagai and Gosford. He deserves respect as he looks to add another picket to the fence. McFarlane’s Geewiz Johnny was charging late behind I’ll Tell You Now at his latest triumph. You’d expect he will be doing the same at the Central Coast’s other track.
Bet: Alibi Dot Com to win.
RACE 6
Summer Loving has shown similar early talent to her Golden Gift winning mother Serena Bay. The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained filly is a smart type, running on gallantly for third in her only start in the race her mum won as a juvenile. A trial hit out has kept her up to the mark for this Magic Millions event. She can settle closer from the good draw and book her float to the Gold Coast. Infatuation deserves respect for her gutsy effort on speed in the Golden Gift. It took a flying Barber to cut her down. The $1.2m colt Mach Ten was runner-up in a Group 3 Breeders Plate at his only start. That was on a heavy though. Fire Lane deserves respect, Sovereign Fund a market watch from right yard.
Bet: Summer Loving to win.
RACE 7
Mr Rock It was scratched from the Magic Millions 3YO & 4YO event in favour of this easier assignment. Placed at four Kembla Grange starts this preparation and gets a winnable race away from his home track. Former Price stable apprentice Brock Ryan aboard, he knows the horse, and gets the inside draw. Irish Kisses was a winner two back at the provincials before finding it a touch more difficult in town. Suited by the drop back in grade here as will Ottilie. Suspect the Jason Deamer galloper could get a soft lead with the world‘s best jockey on deck. A favourable draw too.
Bet: Mr Rock It to win.
