University of Alabama quarterback Bryce Young reportedly met with the Las Vegas Raiders on Wednesday before impressing at his pro day workout on Thursday.
He also was scheduled to have dinner with the Carolina Panthers on Thursday after his workout.
Similar to Wednesday’s Ohio State pro day, a contingent of decision-makers from the Panthers that included head coach Frank Reich and quarterback coach Josh McCown were seen front and center.
Young, is widely believed to be the only player in contention with Ohio State QB C.J. Stroud and is considered a lock to be taken within the first two picks of this year’s draft.
He declined to have his measurables retaken after weighing in at 5-foot-10 and 204 pounds at last month’s NFL combine.
Bryce Young had an impressive workout at his pro day, after reportedly meeting with Raiders
Young finished his career at Alabama by winning the 2022 Sugar Bowl over Kansas State
Young’s throwing session was essentially perfect as he showed off his touch and accuracy on all three levels, while also showing the same calm and collected demeanor that he displayed on Saturdays for the Crimson Tide.
Throughout his career at Alabama, Young threw for 8,356 yards, 80 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, on 624 completions and 949 passing attempts.
Following the workout NFL Network analyst and legendary Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. said: ‘He processes at another level… he’s not a guy you wanna pass up.
‘Young’s play style and ability to make stellar throws outside of the pocket has drawn comparisons to Patrick Mahomes, while the main question mark around him is if his smaller frame will be able to hold up to the physical beating it will take in the NFL.’
ESPN’s draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. has noted multiple times that no player of Young’s stature has ever been taken in the first-round of the draft before.
Chances are high that the Raiders meeting served mainly as due diligence. Las Vegas has the seventh pick in the draft and by all expectations Young should be long gone by the time they are on the clock.
The Raiders also signed Jimmy Garoppolo to a three-year $72.74million deal to be the starting quarterback.
Sitting behind Garoppolo, who has a long history of missing time due to injuries, would be a good chance for any young QB, however the team is unlikely to part with the amount of draft capital it would take to trade up high enough to secure Young after already investing so heavily in the position.

The Seattle Seahawks also held visits with Young, as well as Stroud this week. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was also seen looking on during Thursday’s workout.
Seattle surprisingly announced the visits themselves by posting selfies taken by each quarterback with members of the organization’s scouting team.
The Seahawks re-signed starting quarterback Geno Smith to a three-year $105m contract following his surprisingly outstanding season, however that does not completely eliminate the possibility of them taking a quarterback with the No. 5 overall pick in the draft.
Smith threw for 4,282 yards and 30 touchdowns last season, which were both by far career-highs for the 32-year-old veteran. He was also named 2022 Most Improved and Comeback Player of the Year.
Despite the large contract, Smith’s deal would be very easy for the Seahawks to part with should they want to hand over the reins to a young QB.
After the fully guaranteed $52m that is owed to Smith in the first year, the deal only contains a $12.7m guarantee in 2024 that is injury only until February.
If Smith were to be released before then Seattle will be able to get out of the deal without owing him any money.
Similar however to the Raiders at pick No. 7 it is unlikely that either Young or Stroud will still be available by pick No. 5 unless something incredibly unforeseen happens.
Chances are Seattle’s team needs on defense will also outweigh the temptation to draft a quarterback of the future.
