A couple big-time announcements in recent days have shaken up the college basketball rankings provided by CBS Sports, tracking the teams best suited to make a real run at the national title in 2023-24.
CBS Sports has long provided a fluid early Top 25 and 1, and the publication is consistent about updating it as NBA Draft decisions are made and transfers are finalized.
There have been a few such moves big enough to shake up the college basketball rankings in recent days.
First, former North Carolina guard Caleb Love decommitted from Michigan, where he had briefly pledged to play following the season. Love instead announced that he will transfer to Arizona, giving the Wildcats a nice bump up the rankings.
Arizona went up five spots in the latest college basketball rankings from CBS Sports, jumping from No. 21 to No. 16.
Another move that caused a decent shake-up was the announcement from Marquette star Olivier-Maxence Prosper that he will remain in the 2023 NBA Draft, rather than returning to school. That news dropped the Golden Eagles three spots in the rankings, from No. 4 to No. 7.
Finally, North Carolina jumped into the new college basketball rankings after being previously unranked.
Why?
The Tar Heels got word that five-star prospect Elliot Cadeau will reclassify to the class of 2023 and join North Carolina on the hardwood next season.
That gives North Carolina plenty of pieces to work with despite the loss of Love to Arizona, with RJ Davis and Armando Bacot back. North Carolina checks into the college basketball rankings at No. 24.
