Monday racing at Dubbo and Andrew Banks shapes as the jockey to follow while they’re also lining up at Taree where seven races confront punters and a good track.
BEST BET
Race 5 No. 2: Call Me Louis
Finished third at his only two runs either side of a long break and a change of stable. Has some talent.
NEXT BEST
Race 6 No. 16: Sizzling Star
Was building up to that last start win at Gilgandra and can keep progressing from there.
VALUE
Race 3 No. 8: Climate Control
Has more ability than his C.V currently reads; he ran in two very strong maidens at Scone.
QUADDIE
Race 4: 6,10
Race 5: 1,2
Race 6: 1,6,16
Race 7: 3,4
JOCKEY/TRAINER TO FOLLOW
Andrew Banks and trainer Kieren Hazelton are on a ‘double hat-trick’ at Dubbo on Monday.
BEST BET
Race 4 No. 6: Killzy
Should be at his peak now and is entitled to step up and perform here at home in the right race.
NEXT BEST
Race 6 No. 4: Ugly Nicos
Had ‘next time’ written all over him when a closing second at Coffs.
VALUE
Race 5 No. 14: Iama Princess
Well-bred filly who looks sure to run well off some stylish trials of late.
RACE 4
Angie Emm has raced 19 times for two wins, five seconds and six thirds so she has been a highly consistent mare overall. This will be her first run for Brett Robb, she was with Clint Lundholm prior so she is very familiar with Dubbo. In fact, one of her two wins was there and over this same trip. Inferno Miss has only managed to win once in her 21 starts but it was at 1000m; all her best form is at the five furlongs. Tango Stepz has won two of six first-up.
Bet: Angie Emm to win
RACE 5
Call Me Louis caught the eye when third of five to the handy Last Bid Liam at Dubbo on debut on February 13 last year. The son of Spieth resurfaced on December 20 at Scone having his first run for the new management. Loads of merit in it too. British Statesman is a well-bred gelding who makes his debut off a eight-length trial win here at Dubbo on December 19. Missile Moove ran a good race for this first time trainer/jockey combo last start.
Bet: Call Me Louis to win
RACE 6
Sizzling Star opened her summer campaign with back to back ‘eighths’ here at Dubbo but as her trainer Kieren Hazelton (rightly) told us they were ‘good eighths’. And so it was no surprise to him to see the mare win at home at Gilgandra on New Year’s Eve and no reason to suggest she can’t keep progressing from there. Hemsted has won 10 races and placed 17 times in his 74 starts which is a real credit to him and his trainer Connie Greig. Worth noting that he is one for one at his home track and it is over this same trip too.
Bet: Sizzling Star to win, exacta 16 to beat 1
RACE 7
Listen To The Band – a great grandson of Shinakima – won by panels at Warren at his first outing for Clint Lundholm. two weeks later the son of Tickets was sixth of 11 at Orange in a Benchmark 58 but he was beaten all that far and it was a very fast race so all in all, there was merit there. Cessnock gelding Boss Shelby ran a huge race at Scone last start almost beating the in-form and handy Jet Pack. Silver Scissors has raced here at home twice for a win (her only win) and a second. Cheeky Nugget is most effective at 1400m to 1600m but he could pull out something fresh.
Bet: Listen To The Band to win
RACE 4
Killzy is very much a product of Widden; his sire and grandsire stood there and his most famous relative, March Hare, was born and raised there. As for what counts most in terms of today, Killzy gets all conditions in his favour, specifically the home track advantage and the step to 1400m. Razama is another local and fairly lightly-raced three-year-old showing both talent and promise. Going to maybe get the drop of them from gate one. Nashian is the potential leader in the race. Last start winner, but harder here.
Bet: Killzy to win, quinella 4,6, exacta 6 to beat 4
RACE 5
Iama Princess adds quite a deal of interest to Monday’s Taree card given that this will be her first start off a really nice win in a trial at Port Macquarie on January 1. She ran almost identical time as Optimo in the Open Heat if that matters. Finds herself in a winnable race albeit drawn a little wide on the day. Uninsurabal was third to Iama Princess in that Port trial and looked good herself. Take it as a fact that she is a much better horse than her C.V presently reads. Tayla’s One is a potential sharp improver here second-up.
Bet: Iama Princess to win, exacta 14 to beat 12
RACE 6
Ugly Nicos was fancied first-up off a long break when he made his Paul Shailer stable debut at Tuncurry on December 13 off some great trials. He was an ‘okay’ seventh of 11 on the day but he really upped the ante when he went to Coffs 16-days later and ran a length second. Logic would suggest that he might peak today. Vardon, the great-grandson of Golden Slipper winner Polar Success, turned in a massive run at Tamworth last start; it was something akin to what his sire, Speith, used to do from time to time! Gold Serenade has claims.
Bet: Ugly Nicos to win, exacta 4 to beat 14
RACE 7
Reateros can ice the cake on what looks a pretty lucrative day for local trainer Wayne Wilkes. Wilkes has only had this direct descendant of La Cassiere for two of her five career runs; one of those was a second at Port in April, the other was a big, big win at Tuncurry on December 13. Barrier 1 might just have clinched the deal today. Island Lass has been a bit costly to follow with just one win after 16 starts but she has placed five times and no doubt that she has mixed it, and often matched it to varying degrees, with some handy enough provincial horses. Capital Gamble and Extessive ate both lightly-raced and progressive types.
Bet: Reateros to win
