Scott McTominay could now miss Manchester United’s FA Cup quarter-final clash with Fulham through injury.
McTominay was in the 21-man squad which flew to Betis on for the 1-0 win on Thursday night but did not get off the bench.
Erik ten Hag has told the club website that the Scotland international was nursing a problem on the night and that is why he did not come on.
He may miss the final game United have before the international break, for which McTominay has been named in the Scotland squad.
Ten Hag said: “We just returned (from Betis).
“We have to see, to see the doc. I have an idea but I have to see the progress with some players.
“About the last game, that is why I didn’t bring him in, Scott McTominay, [as] he had some complaints. We have to see how that will progress in the coming hours and days.”
Casemiro is suspended for this game, so it might have been an opportunity for McTominay to come in and remind the manager what he can do.
If McTominay is out, Ten Hag is most likely to play Fred and Marcel Sabitzer, who made his injury return on Thursday night together in the heart of midfield.
There is the prospect of playing Bruno Fernandes in a deeper role, like he did against Southampton in our last home game.
Ten Hag is unlikely to throw a youngster into such a big game, especially without someone like Casemiro to anchor behind them.
We will wait and see whether this issue keeps McTominay out of the game or even potentially the international break, when Scotland face Cyprus and Spain.
