PFF lists Daniel Jones among NFL’s top deep passers in 2022

Daniel Jones is coming off his most efficient NFL campaign.

In addition to reaching new career-highs in passing yards (3,205) and passer rating (92.5) last season, Jones set franchise single-season QB records in completion percentage (67.5), interception percentage (1.06; No. 1 in the NFL), rushing yards (708) and rushing touchdowns (seven).

The 26-year-old’s numbers were even more impressive after taking a closer look at the analytics.

Pro Football Focus’ Lauren Gray recently analyzed the NFL’s top deep passing performances based on the 2022 season, where Jones came in at No. 7.

The Giants did not call for the deep ball too often in Year 1 of the new system under coach Brian Daboll and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka. However, with another year in the offense along with several new weapons, including tight end Darren Waller and wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, that could change in 2023.

“Hyatt led Power Five receivers in deep yards (677) and touchdowns (eight) last season,” Gray wrote. “Waller ranks top five among tight ends in deep receiving grade (92.8) and yards (652) since 2019.”

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound quarterback had some success when he did throw the ball downfield last season. His 119.3 passer rating on deep passes was the third-highest in the NFL, while his 43.5 deep completion percentage ranked ninth.

Jones’ strong performance in 2022 led to him receiving a multi-year contract extension from the Giants earlier this offseason.
