While shopping for Devin Booker trading cards at a California shop, a girl got a major surprise from the NBA star himself.
Michael Rubin, the founder of the online sports apparel store Fanatics, spotted the fan as she was thumbing through cards of the Phoenix Suns guard, according to a video he posted to Twitter on March 26. That’s when Rubin dialed up Booker, who is among the investors in the Fanatics-owned Mitchell & Ness brand.
“I’m in a card shop right now and I asked this girl what she’s looking for,” Rubin tells Booker in a FaceTime call before showing the girl the phone. “What would you say you’re looking for?”
The girl was shocked when she saw Booker on the phone’s screen.
“I can’t believe it,” said the girl, who calls herself a “really, really big fan” of the three-time NBA All Star.
She said she always goes to the Los Angeles Clippers games when they host Booker’s Suns.
The chat with Booker wasn’t the only treat for the young fan. After they got off the phone, Rubin told the girl Booker wanted her address so he could send her a signed jersey.
“My favorite NBA player ever,” she said in the video. “I’ve been collecting him for so long, so that was awesome.”
Burbank Sportscards, the California store where the interaction took place, also shared the video on social media.
”What a moment for her. THIS is what the hobby is about, and I’m confident that we’re in good hands,” the store said.
