TACOMA, WA. –
The University of Minnesota women’s golf team posted two strong scores in the first 36 holes of the Leadership & Golf Invitational. Round one was highlighted by Grace Curran’s
seven birdies and 5-under-par 67. This helped the team post a 283 (-5), which tied the sixth-lowest 18-hole round in school history. Another 5-under-par 67 led the team in round two, this one coming from senior Hailey Loh
. She finished day one of the Leadership & Golf Invitational with the solo lead, and the team’s two-round score of 283-285=568 (-8) has the team in second.
Southern California is the lone team ahead of the Gophers with a two-round score of 276-285=561 (-15).
“Another awesome day for the team and I am so proud of how they all handled themselves today,” said head coach Rhyll Brinsmead. “Playing 36 holes is always a grind, mentally and physically, but we again showed our tenacity to be successful. To have two different players shoot 67 is unreal. We cannot wait to compete for the title tomorrow.”
Senior Hailey Loh has the lead after posting two under-par rounds with twelve total birdies. Her two-round score of 70-67=137 (-7) gives her a three-stroke lead heading into tomorrow’s final round.
Isabella McCauley stayed consistent throughout the first 36 holes, carding a 72 and 71. The 143 (-1) has McCauley in a tie for 11th.
Grace Curran sits alongside teammate McCauley in a tie for 11th. She matched her career personal best score of 67 in round one and finished with a total score of 67-76=143 (-1).
Graduate Emma Carpenter jumped up 33 places on the leaderboard between rounds one and two. She is tied for 27th with a two-round score of 76-72=148 (+4).
Sara Tomaszewski carded six birdies and twenty pars across her two rounds today. The freshman is in a tie for 35th with a score of 74-75=149 (+5).
Playing as an individual, Megan Furtney finished the day with a score of 76-77=153 (+9). She’s tied for 66th with 18 more holes to play.
