Although Henry Cavill has hung up his Superman cape, the star is set to save the world once more, this time as an international spy in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming spy thriller, “Argylle.”
Apple Original Films released the first trailer for the movie, teasing Cavill’s super-spy, Argylle, who travels around the globe conducting top-secret missions. The film, out Feb. 2, 2024, is based on a forthcoming novel from Ellie Conway, which is set to publish on Nov. 9.
While fans weren’t provided a great deal of information about the movie, the synopsis of Conway’s debut novel reads, “A luxury train speeding towards Moscow and a date with destiny. A CIA plane was downed in the jungles of the Golden Triangle. A Nazi hoard entombed in the remote mountains of South-West Poland. A missing treasure, the eighth wonder of the world, lost for seven decades. One Russian magnate’s dream of restoring a nation to greatness has set in motion a chain of events that will take the world to the brink of chaos. Only Frances Coffey, the CIA’s most legendary spymaster, can prevent it. But to do so, she needs someone special. Enter Argylle, a troubled agent with a tarnished past who may just have the skills to take on one of the most powerful men in the world. If only he can save himself first…”
Cavill is joined by a star-studded cast, including Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, John Cena, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose and Samuel L. Jackson.
Vaughn, the “Kingsman” franchise director, also serves as a producer on the film, alongside Adam Bohling and David Reid, as well as executive producers Zygi Camasa, Carlos Peres, Claudia Vaughn and Adam Fishbach. Jason Fuchs serves as the film’s screenwriter.
“Argylle” will be distributed by Universal Pictures and will stream on Apple TV+ at a later date.
