Henry Cavill has just announced that he has hung up the red cape of Superman due to the different plans of the new management of DC Studios and has already found a new job, now in another world of science fiction and fantasy, in a series to be produced by Amazon.
The famous miniatures war game, Warhammer 40,000, will be brought to the streaming screen in a series for which Prime Video has already secured the rights to it, produced by Games Workshop.
According to information published by The Hollywood Reporter, so far the project still has no screenwriters or directors. Roy Lee and Natalie Viscuso, from Vertigo Entertainment, partnered with Cavill to acquire the rights and hand them over to Amazon. Vertigo will executive produce alongside Cavill and GAW’s Andy Smillie and Max Bottrill, in addition to Amazon Studios.
“This is great news and we’re thrilled; we’re working with a fantastic triumvirate in Henry, Vertigo and Amazon. Henry’s well-known love of Warhammer 40,000 – and his passion as a world builder and storyteller – will serve us well in the coming years,” the statement said.
Warhammer is a game similar to Dungeons & Dragons, except that it also features intricate miniatures that players can place and move around a battlefield or model-built world.
The game’s plot is set 40,000 years in the future, in a dark time for humanity in which it faces aliens and magical beings.
Henry Cavill is a big fan of Warhammer, which is why he is expected to star in the planned series, and more so now that he recently gave up his lead role in Netflix’s The Witcher.
“I’ve loved Warhammer since I was a kid, so this moment is very special to me. The opportunity to lead this cinematic universe from its inception is quite an honor and a responsibility,” said Cavill.
“I couldn’t be more grateful for all the hard work put in by Vertigo, Amazon Studios and Games Workshop to make this possible. One step closer to making a lifelong dream come true.”
