PULASKI – Joe Fischer hit a three-run home run to advance Hortonville to the WIAA Division 1 state tournament as it defeated De Pere by the 10-run rule in the sectional championship game.
Fischer’s home run ended the game. Fischer finished with four RBIs.
Camden Kuhnke had two hits, including a double, scored twice and drove in three runs.
Nathan Vela allowed three hits and four walks while striking out seven in five innings to get the win.
The Polar Bears, who scored five times in the fourth and five times in the fifth, are now in the state tournament for the first time since 1998.
They will be making their ninth appearance at the state tournament.
Landon Raygo took the loss for De Pere, allowing three runs on three hits and four walks in 3⅓ innings.
Easton Arendt had three hits, including a double, for De Pere. Axel Donaldson added a double.
In the Hortonville-Appleton North semifinal, the Polar Bears scored their runs on 11 hits and seven walks.
The Polar Bears took a 5-0 lead in the second inning and never looked back.
Vela and Evan Mahan both drove in three runs for Hortonville. Vela had two hits, including a double. Brett Sommer and Camden Kuhnke both had two hits.
Thomas Burns pitched the first five innings for Hortonville. He allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six. Camden Kuhnke pitched the final two innings. He allowed no hits and no walks while striking out four.
Caden Popp started and took the loss for Appleton North.
In the De Pere/Kimberly semifinal, the Redbirds scored five runs in the fifth inning.
MARSHFIELD – Bennet Klish hit a walk-off sacrifice fly to give Stevens Point the win over Hudson in the sectional championship and send the Panthers to the WIAA state tournament for the first time since 2014.
It will be Stevens Point’s 16th appearance at the WIAA state tournament. Hudson had led 2-0 after the first inning and 5-2 after three.
Stevens Point scored twice in the third on a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch.
Kale Roth and Deacon Koback each drove in a run for Stevens Point in the fourth to make it 5-4. Stevens Point then tied the game in the sixth inning on Roth’s run-scoring ground ball to third.
In the semifinal game against River Falls, Stevens Point scored three times to take a 5-1 lead.
Stevens Point took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when pinch-runner Jacob Garth scored on a passed ball. Garth was pinch running for Deacan Koback, who had hit a two-out triple.
A throwing error with runners on first and second allowed Stevens Point to go ahead 2-0 in the third.
OSHKOSH – Daelen Johnson pitched a complete game to power the Golden Beavers to the win over the Ships in the sectional semifinal game.
Johnson gave up five hits, two walks and one run while striking out six.
Beaver Dam took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a triple by Brandon Morrissey and a single by Kyler Keel.
Boston Damon scored in the fifth on a single by Johnson to make it 2-0 with a triple by Damon and a single by Eli Bryant making it 3-0 in the seventh.
Beaver Dam would go on to lose 4-1 to Hartford in the sectional championship game.
WINNECONNE – Denmark advanced to the state tournament with a 2-0 win over Chilton in the sectional championship game.
Denmark will be making its fifth overall and third consecutive appearance in the state tournament and going for its third straight state title.
Against Chilton, Jaycob Dittmer pitched 6⅔ innings to get the win. He gave up five hits and struck out two. Lucas Miller got the final out for the save.
Denmark took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Miller walked, stole stecond and scored on Rheis Johnson’s double.
Denmark tacked on another run in the fifth inning as Nolan Perry singled, stole second and scored on Ethan Ovsak’s hit.
Denmark improves to 28-2 with the win while Chilton finishes at 24-3.
In Denmark’s semifinal game, the Vikings scored the winning run on Izaac Dittmer’s bases-loaded sacrifice fly to right field with one out.
Miller pitched the final three innings to get the win against Notre Dame. He gave up no hits and struck out three. Ovsak pitched the first four innings.
Miller and Izaac Dittmer both had two hits for Denmark.
Aaron Heyroth took the loss for Notre Dame.
In the Chilton-Waupun game, Max Mueller pitched a complete game for the Tigers, allowing three runs on four hits and no walks. He struck out four.
Ryan Pierquet, Mueller and Hunter Rolbiecki each had multiple hit games for Chilton.
Waupun finishes its season with a 22-5 record.
MARKESAN – Random Lake advanced to the state tournament for the first time in school history with a win over Deerfield in the sectional championship game.
Bryan Mitchell pitched a complete game, allowing one hit and no runs wile striking out four.
Mitchell Hiller put Random Lake ahead to stay in the opening inning of the title game with a three-run home run.
In the semifinal game, Payton Donohue drove in the game-winning run in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly.
Matt Merlo allowed just three hits and one run over 6⅔ innings while striking out 10.
Josh Steger took the loss for Lomira.
Weston Poth had two hits for Lomira.
SHIOCTON – Kiel qualified for the WIAA state tournament for the first time since 2017 with the win over Amherst in the sectional championship game.
Kiel’s 2017 state tournament appearance was when the WIAA offered summer baseball. This is Kiel’s first trip to the spring baseball state tournament.
Eyan Dessellier drove in both Kiel runs with a two-run triple.
Nathan Stephany pitched a complete game to get the win.
In the Kiel/New Holstein semifinal game, Ben Kienbaum’s two-run single rallied Kiel from a 3-2 deficit in the sixth inning in its win over New Holstein.
In the other sectional semifinal, Amherst defeated Auburndale 4-3.
BLAIR – The Cardinals scored four times in the fourth and four more in the fifth to break open their semifinal game against the Panthers.
Pittsville was led by Dylan Luther and Joey Downs, who both had two hits. Luther scored twice and had two doubles while Brad Neve drove in two runs.
Logan Zickert took the loss for Pittsville. He allowed 11 runs in 4⅔ innings but only four of the runs were earned as Pittsville committed three errors.
Tyler Webb went 4â…“ innings for Eleva-Strum to get the win.
Justin Becker had three hits, scored twice and drove in four runs for Eleva-Strum. Ty Fjelstad had three hits.
Eleva-Strum lost to fourth-seeded Ithaca 6-2 in the sectional championship game.
