This match looks like an excellent opportunity for Grove Road to extend his unbeaten sequence under Rules to four. Grove Road dug deep to make a successful start in a Sedgefield bumper last season and he defied an 11-month absence to score on his debut over hurdles at Carlisle in October before following up at Hereford a couple of months later. He remains unexposed over hurdles and is difficult to oppose here with only rival Well Dick having a bit to prove after disappointing at Chepstow last time.

Kildrum ran no sort of race over hurdles at Catterick on New Year’s Day but he produced his best effort for the Micky Hammond yard when readily scoring over this course and distance 12 days ago. Kildrum had been a narrow winner over course and distance last spring but he scored with a lot more in hand earlier this month, jumping soundly on his way to a 25-length success, despite being heavily eased. He has an 11 lb higher mark to cope with here but he’s clearly effective around this undulating track and is in good heart at present which could count for a lot.

Bingoo progressed well in bumpers, finishing third at Newcastle, runner-up at Carlisle and then getting off the mark here in April, his experience coming in handy in what developed into a dash for home. Bingoo also scored here on his hurdling debut in November, winning with more in hand than the margin of a length and a half would suggest after leading on the bridle approaching the last and just being shaken up on the run-in. He disappointed on his next outing at Catterick, paying the price for racing too freely over a longer trip, but he got back on track when dropped in distance at Ayr last time, finishing third after not proving as headstrong as the time before. He goes handicapping from a fair mark and will be suited by the return to this venue.

Golan Cloud has been lightly raced since winning over course and distance a couple of years ago – he made it to the course only twice last season and has done likewise so far this term – but he has been given a chance by the handicapper and might be able to take advantage. He showed nothing on his return at Uttoxeter in December but ran better back at the same venue a month later when finishing fourth. He has been eased 1 lb since then so is now 5 lb below his last winning mark and could be worth siding with.

High Moon is still searching for a first win over fences but he has produced some creditable efforts in defeat, finishing in the first three on all five chase starts. He hasn’t quite been at his best the last twice, but he’s faced stiffer tasks than this one, while the handicapper has also relented and dropped him 3 lb since his latest effort. He appeals as being on a decent mark.

Clovis Island was runner-up on his only start in an Irish point in October and is a half-brother to the smart Grade 2-winning novice hurdler Inthepocket, so he makes appeal on paper ahead of his bumper debut. He starts out under Rules with trainer Nicky Richards’ team in excellent order.
