As holiday tournaments kick off across the state over the next two weeks, there’s a third different No. 1 team in the HighSchoolOT girls basketball statewide rankings in as many weeks.
Lake Norman takes over the top spot thanks to Charlotte Catholic’s upset loss to Independence this week. Catholic had just taken over the reins as No. 1 thanks to some close wins by Northern Guilford. The Cougars fell to 11th, while Independence went from unranked to 10th.
North Mecklenburg, its only loss a nail-biter to Lake Norman, is second. Panther Creek, its only losses coming to out-of-state teams, is third, followed by Northern Guilford and Hoggard to round out the top five.
Independence, T.C. Roberson, Watauga, and South Central join the top 25 this week, replacing Rosman, Millbrook, E.E. Smith, and Purnell Swett.
