For most of this month, the New York Jets have been in a bit of a waiting period. Will they acquire quarterback Aaron Rodgers in a trade with a Green Bay Packers, or will they not? QB is the team’s biggest need at the moment, but that could change at any time.
Regardless, the Jets have other holes on their roster they need to fill, too. And they’ll likely address some of them during the 2023 NFL draft, which is set for April 27-29 in Kansas City. New York owns six picks, including the No. 13 overall selection.
If the Jets end up not landing Rodgers, then maybe they try to find a QB in the draft again, as Zach Wilson has struggled over his first two NFL seasons. But for now, we’ll assume Rodgers will likely be heading to New York, which has seemed like a strong possibility.
Here’s a look at the Jets’ biggest remaining other needs they may have to address in the draft.

New York has one of the best defensive tackles in the league in Quinnen Williams. But the Jets run a 4-3 defensive scheme, meaning they need two DTs as anchors in the center of their defensive line.
The only other experienced defensive tackle on New York’s roster is Solomon Thomas. But the team may want an upgrade over him to start alongside Williams. At the least, it needs to acquire more depth, just in case either Williams or Thomas gets hurt.
It may be wise for the Jets to use their first-round pick on one of the top defensive tackles in the class. By pairing an elite prospect with the 25-year-old Williams, they could be set on the interior of the D-line for the long term.
There are quite a few talented defensive tackles who will likely be on the board for New York to consider at No. 13. Clemson’s Bryan Bresee could be a great fit, as he has a ton of success for the Tigers and appears poised to build on that early in his pro career.

Over the past three seasons, Connor McGovern has been the Jets’ starting center. And he did a great job leading the interior of their offensive line, making 48 starts from 2020-22.
However, McGovern is now a free agent and remains on the market. Perhaps he ends up returning to New York and picking up where he left off last season. But there’s also a chance the 29-year-old signs elsewhere, leaving a huge hole at center for the Jets.
If that’s the case, New York will have to bring in a player to take over that starting role either in free agency or the draft. They’ve already signed Wes Schweitzer, but he’s a better fit as a depth player at guard rather than starting at center.
The Jets could address this need early in the draft (if McGovern isn’t back), and if they do, Ohio State’s Luke Wypler could be a strong target. He had a lot of success with the Buckeyes and could develop into a leader for an NFL franchise down the line.

When a team can acquire a starting safety who started every game last season in exchange for a seventh-round pick, it makes sense to complete that trade. That’s what the Jets did when they sent a 2024 seventh-rounder to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for Chuck Clark.
Even if Clark isn’t a top-level safety, he’s started 49 games over the past three seasons for Baltimore. The 27-year-old is a valuable player for New York to add to its secondary heading into the 2023 campaign.
But the Jets may still want to target a young safety who they can develop behind the veterans on their roster. They don’t have a ton of depth at the moment behind Clark and Jordan Whitehead, either.
It may take a while before New York potentially selects a safety in the draft, but it could happen in a later round. And if it does, Texas A&M’s Antonio Johnson could be a good player for them to consider, as he proved he could be a defensive playmaker for the Aggies and may do the same at the next level.
