Juventus have joined Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Khephren Thuram, 90min understands.
Thuram was one of the many midfielders linked with a potential move to Liverpool during the summer, however the club ultimately opted to sign Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo instead despite holding initial talks with Nice over the midfielder.
The 22-year-old stayed at Nice beyond the transfer deadline at the start of September, but he has continued to be heavily linked with a departure in the near future.
Sources have confirmed to 90min that Juventus, PSG, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham have all scouted Thuram in the first few weeks of the 2023/24 season, while Liverpool have asked to be kept abreast of his availability despite recently signing four midfielders.
90min understands that it is Juve who currently hold the strongest interest in Thuram out of the six clubs who have been linked. That is due to the situation with Paul Pogba.
Pogba was recently suspended from football after Italy’s anti-doping tribunal revealed the France international returned a test with high levels of testosterone after Juve’s win over Udinese last month.
The midfielder could face a maximum ban of four years for the offence. However, if he can establish that the banned substance was taken outside of competition and unrelated to sport performance, he may only be banned for three months. The uncertainty around Pogba’s footballing future could mean that any move for Thuram may be accelerated ahead of the January transfer window.
Key to Juventus‘ pursuit of Thuram may be the familial ties the player has with the club. The Nice star’s father, Lilian, spent five successful seasons in Turin and sources have told 90min that he is keen to see his son join Juventus. Khephren’s brother Marcus is now in Italy after joining as a free agent when his contract at Borussia Monchengladbach expired.
