The Los Angeles Lakers (29-32) completed an epic comeback in the second half against the Dallas Mavericks (32-30) Sunday at American Airlines Center on the back of incredible performances from LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Davis, 29, finished the contest with a game-high 30 points to go with 15 rebounds, four assists, one steal and three blocks. He also hit a couple of shots down the final stretch of the contest to seal the victory.
Lakers trailed by 27 points in the second quarter and went on to complete the largest comeback victory of the 2022-23 NBA season.
A late turnover by the crumbling Dallas team all-but-sealed their fate as Mavericks go 1-3 with both Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving on the floor.
James, 38, helped battle the Mavs’ dynamic duo by putting up 26 points, eight rebounds and three assists.
Dennis Schroder and Jarred Vanderbilt contributed to the victory with a respective 16 and 15 points.
Irving, 30, and Doncic, 23, looked spectacular in the first half, but were unable to continue their momentum into the second.
They combined for 47 points, and got help from Tim Hardaway Jr. and Christian Wood, who scored 17 and 14 points, respectively.
Lakers still have a long way to clinch a playoff spot, but the win over Mavericks was essential ahead of Tuesday’s road game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
