ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Saint Joseph’s men’s tennis team opened its spring campaign on Saturday afternoon, falling to Navy by a 5-2 score at the Tose Family Tennis Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Navy (5-5) got on the board with a pair of doubles victories. Inigo Diaz and Nassim Fenjiro earned a win for the Hawks, notching a 6-4 result in the third flight.
• Saint Joseph’s (0-1) leveled the match through Alejandro Vedri, who secured a 6-7, 6-1, 6-2 win in the first flight, but the hosts would win four of the next five to claim the match victory. Fenjiro won his fifth-flight match, 6-3, 3-6, 10-6, in a supertiebreaker.
HAWK TALK
“Not the best start to the season for us against a very strong Navy team,” head coach Marc Pibernat said. “Our overall performance was good, however, there’s still a lot of room to improve, especially in the competitive aspect of a collegiate match. A big shout out to Alejandro, who beat their top player, and also to our captain, Nassim, for winning both his singles and doubles matches.”
