MIAMI SHORES, FLA. – The Drexel men’s tennis team defeated the Barry University Buccaneers, 5-2, on Tuesday afternoon. According to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), Barry placed fourth in the nation in Division II rankings in the March 22 poll.
After Barry took the doubles point, Drexel earned the four points needed to take the match in singles play. Daniel Dudockin checked in with a No. 2 win with a 6-3, 6-2 victory. In the sixth-seeded match, Hugo Brungs finished his opponent, 6-2, 6-4. With the Dragons, now in the lead, 2-1, Barry took the top-seeded match to even the score. Juan Manuel Sanchez earned a three-set victory in the fifth-seeded match, bouncing back from a 6-0 set one defeat. The final score of his match was 0-6, 6-3, 6-3. Alex De Sousa clinched the match for Drexel after powering through a grueling No. 3 singles match. The junior dropped set one, 6-4, but took the second set, 6-1, and the third set, 6-4.
To add onto the winning score, Egor Kirakosov earned a three-set victory in the No. 4 spot. The final score of his match was 6-7, 6-0, 6-3.
Drexel continues its spring break Florida trip with a match against No. 46, Miami. The opening serve, from Coral Gables, Fla. is slated for 3 p.m.
