Mitchell Johnson (Soyrce:X)
Former Australia pacer Mitchell Johnson has reportedly been sacked from the commentary team for the Test series against Pakistan. Johnson confirmed being part of the Triple M commentary team for the Australia vs Pakistan test series but his name was missing from the list of commentators released by the company on Tuesday. It had names of legends like Merv Hughes, Wasim Akram, and Mark Taylor but Johnson did not feature in the list.
It has been speculated that Johnson was sacked because of his attack on David Warner. The former Aussie pacer launched a scathing attack on David Warner after he was selected in the Australia squad for the 1st Test vs Pakistan. Johnson said that Warner should not have made it to the squad given his poor form in the format in recent times. Notably, Warner expressed his desire to retire from Test cricket following the Test series against Pakistan and Johnson feels that his selection has been done to give him a hero send-off. The pacer alleged that Warner was benefitted from his close relationship with chief selector George Bailey.
Johnson also revealed that he got pretty bad texts from Warner after he wrote a coloumn on Warner’s wife Candice for defending Warner’s place in the team. The veteran pacer accepted that the texts along with Warner’s involvement in the Sandpaper gate scandal were a few reasons that motivated him to write a coloumn on Warner.
“I got a message from Dave, which was quite personal. I tried to ring to try and talk to him about it, which I’ve always been open to. I know I’ve been open to the guys when I finished playing. I said if I’m in the media and writing things or saying things that you don’t like, just come and speak to me,” the former Australia pacer said on The Mitchell Johnson Cricket Show.
“It was never a personal thing then until this point. This is probably what drove me to write the article as well, part of it. It was definitely a factor. Some of the stuff that was said in that, I won’t say it. I think that’s up to Dave to say it if he wants to talk about it. There was some stuff in there that was extremely disappointing, what he said, and pretty bad to be honest,” he added.
