Welcome back to high school team. Josh Williams knew that coach Garringer High School, uh, coach. You’re from South Carolina. You coached a lot down there. You won the championships as an assistant. That’s your first head coaching job up here in Charlotte. Um I guess just, you know, uh, for our audience here to take us through your, uh background and, uh, what lead you to Garringer? All right. Uh, first, um I appreciate you for having this time with me, uh, today. Um coming from South Carolina, went to, uh, was coaching at high school last year. Um, a year before that I was at Chapman High School, uh, did two years there. Um, before then I was at, uh Westwood High School, uh, down in Columbia as well. So, um been doing some coordinating down there and, um been been winning there. So, um trying to bring that winning culture here as well. Awesome. Uh What was, first of all when you know about, I mean, we know they haven’t had too much success lately, but what about the actual school of people here? Have you noticed? Right. So, uh, like you said, in the win loss column. Um, the, the guys haven’t been as successful as they wanted to be. Um, however, walking around the school campus getting to know the kids, the athletes are actually here. Um, we just have to find those kids and number one, get them out to play. Uh, number two, make sure they’re eligible and then number three, you know, just put the kids where they need to be in order to be successful. Um, the, the staff here has been absolutely amazing, uh, from the principal to the a ad to the de the students, they have been absolutely amazing, um, in this transition with me, so been great, I think, um, kind of a interesting way. This is one of those, uh, older schools that have been around for a while and, you know, people that are fans of is on the state have always, you know, wondered about this place and then wondered if it could ever take off. Um, so I think there, there’s actually a lot of people that, uh, um, like will be rooting for you from across the state. Um, what have you seen from the team so far? Like from spring workouts? I know it’s, it’s a completely different group. You have a bunch of new players. But, uh, what are some of the main takeaways you’ve had from the actual, uh, you know, on field workouts? So, like you said, it’s a completely new group of kids. Um, I had a lot of guys that transferred out for whatever reason. Um But the guys that we have been having come uh during the uh spring workouts, it’s all about progression. Uh from day one to day, you know, 14, there was a massive jump. Um Like I said, some of these guys are absolutely green as a blade of grass, but their, their attitude is always positive that they want to, to learn is always positive. So again, it’s, it’s, it’s, it’s a really good environment. Um uh for progression number one and to build on number two, are there a couple of guys that you’re excited about to be out there? Uh Yeah, I got a couple of guys. Um I’m, I’m gonna, I’m gonna keep them nameless right now, but uh I got a couple of guys out there that I’m, I’m excited to see uh whether it be first year guys or, you know, coming from, you know, uh playing from last year trying to come back out and, you know, just having a clean slate and things like that. So, so, yeah, I’m excited about a couple of those guys. So being a first year, first time head coach, um teams can kind of, uh, I think, uh reflect the personality of the head coach. So what do you want the personality of the team to be? Oh, man. Um So there’s two answers to that, you know, off the field. We want to be that we want to set the standard number one. Um, and, and everything that we do in our, in our community, um, in our school and our home. Um, and in order to do that, we gotta be a good son. Number one, be a good daughter, number, you know, number one as well. Um, for the girls that’s on the team as well. So, um, that’s number one. Now, on the flip side of that when it comes to the field, like, I want these guys to be number one aggressive, we’re gonna be tough and aggressive. Um, uh, uh, we, we have this thing, uh, that we say every day of practice, you know, um, it’s this verse in the Bible that says if a man doesn’t work, he doesn’t eat. Um, so we always break it down to that and that, that means, hey, listen, we about to clock in for the next hour and 30 minutes and we’re gonna get this work done, I think. Um, last you were talking with me before, I think, I think you’re, you have a pretty good, uh, understanding of the kind of job it’s gonna take, it’s gonna, it’s gonna be, I mean, certainly it’s gonna be a long process, uh, having you kind of, uh, plan on, um, keeping your own personal expectations kind of in, in the right spot, uh, you know, to see what to match that long term vision. And, um, I guess, you know, uh, what what would you say to the people that, you know, have seen so many coaches come through here? Um What, what would you tell them about your, uh, dedication to one place? So, so number one, with me, it’s about vision, you know, without vision, you know, um, there can be no progression, right? Um, with me, I’m a building blocks type of person. Um, we, we’ll say the standard low at first, then when we exceed that. Ok. Now we can build upon that. Ok. Yeah, then we can build upon that. So, um it, it’s all about building blocks with me. Um I’ll never set the, the standard so high and unattainable to where I’m like, man, I’m beating myself up every day. No, it’s small victories. Um And, and that one and no mindset that’s gonna always make it, you know, great to be out there, you know what I mean? Actually, I do one more question. Ok. So, uh first Friday night, our first home game, uh when you come out there as the head coach for the first time on the Friday night lights, what’s gonna go into your head? Uh Man, number one is gonna be a lot of emotions. Um This is something that I’ve been, you know, working towards my whole career. Um And to, to be in this position number one, but then on the flip side, it’s just I, I’ve played football like my entire life. So there’s always gonna be those pregame jitters and those pregame like, oh man, here we go. You know what I’m saying? So um it, it’s gonna be a lot of mixed emotions, so I, I really feel good about it, but you know, again, we’re gonna take it one snap at a time. You know, how many times can I go? One of those is the mindset. So, yeah, appreciate the time. Best of luck here. Yes, sir. That should be a fun looking forward to it. Yes, sir. I appreciate you for having me. Thank you.
