With the number of transfers in college football skyrocketing in recent seasons, there aren’t many players who can be for sure counted on to return to the same team next season.
It looks like we can add Ohio State star wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. to that list.
Following the Buckeyes’ loss to Georgia in the Peach Bowl on Saturday, a rumor made the rounds online that Harrison, who has to play one more season of college football before he can declare for the NFL Draft, could look to change schools. USC was specifically speculated to be his destination.
It’s unclear exactly where the rumor came from, but it made its way back to Harrison. He shut it down, emphatically.
On The Roosters Report web show, Jeremy Birmingham of Rivals said he asked Harrison about a potential move to USC.
“I did ask Marvin Harrison a very important question,” Birmingham said. “I asked him when he’s packing his stuff to transfer to USC. And he said, and I quote, ‘Where the [bleep] do they come up with this stuff?'”
It never made much sense that Harrison would leave Ohio State. The son of former NFL star Marvin Harrison enjoyed a breakout sophomore campaign, catching 77 passes for 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns. His yardage total ranked sixth nationally and he ranked fourth in receiving scores.
While Harrison will be catching passes from a new quarterback with C.J. Stroud gone to the NFL, he should continue to be the focal point of the Buckeyes’ passing game. Heisman Trophy odds are not yet available for 2023, but Harrison figures to be the leading non-quarterback contender.
Plus, he has unfinished business with the Buckeyes. Ohio State came heartbreakingly close to upsetting No. 1 Georgia and claiming a spot in Monday’s national championship game, losing 42-41 after kicker Noah Ruggles missed a field goal in the final seconds. The Buckeyes missed Harrison down the stretch, as he was knocked out of the game with a concussion resulting from a controversial hit late in the third quarter.
It sure sounds like Harrison will be back to try to lead Ohio State to a national title in 2023.
