2024 OU SEC Schedule (speculation)

June 14 marks an important day for the Oklahoma football program. That is the day the SEC schedule will be  announced. It’s a unique time for the storied conference because 2024’s schedule will be a temporary makeup. After all, it’s a division-less schedule.

The arrival of OU and Texas has been received with a mixed reception. Some current SEC programs are in the ‘who cares, we’ll take on anybody’ crowd (Bama, Georgia, LSU). Some are in the ‘no way, those guys don’t belong here’ crowd (Texas A&M, Mizzou). The rest of the SEC is in the ‘meh…” crowd. Anyway, you look at it, though, it’s a massive transition for the conference and the entire landscape of college football.

So, what would be the best result of the June 14 schedule release for Sooner Nation? Obviously, avoiding road games in Athens, Tuscaloosa, and Baton Rouge would be advantageous… but that’s no fun. The best part of getting into the conference that ‘just means more’ is the big-time matchups heading our way. So let’s develop our suggestion for SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey and see if he follows our guidance.

To develop our 8-game SEC conference schedule, we will create it as if we’re the SEC higher-ups… not die hard, let’s have every game in Norman Sooner fans. 4 games will be on the road, and 4 will be at home.

Before we begin, let’s remember that OU is already scheduled to play Temple and Tulane in the Palace as part of their non-conference schedule. If ‘SEC History’ repeats itself, I’d expect to see an FCS opponent in November. Last year, and most years before last year, SEC teams played a team like this late in the season due to the apparent brutality of an SEC schedule. So that leaves one more non-conference opponent. No word yet as to who that may be, but I’d be willing to bet an answer will come shortly following the June 14 SEC announcement.
