Pitt landed four commitments right off of the first weekend of official visits, and it was a defensive back-heavy haul.

Allen Bryant started it off by announcing his commitment to Pitt Saturday afternoon, and now he’s joined by Davion Pritchard, who announced his commitment Sunday night.

Pritchard — 6-foot-1, 185-pound three-star cornerback from Fitch High School in Youngstown, Ohio — committed to Pitt over offers from Boston College, Kentucky, Maryland and Pitt, along with offers from the likes of Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Miami (Oh.), Ohio, Temple, Toledo, Western Michigan and Youngstown State.

The relationship between Pitt and Pritchard has advanced rapidly in the last two weeks, ever since Archie Collins extended him an offer on May 18.

Pritchard was a late addition to Pitt’s first weekend of official visitors, but it’s clear that his experience in Pittsburgh — bonding more with Collins and spending time with some of Pitt’s defensive backs — allowed him to feel secure enough to pledge his services for the next few seasons.

He isn’t the biggest cornerback around, but he does have good size and length at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds. He’s aggressive on the line of scrimmage, and his ability to read quarterbacks helped lead to interceptions last season.

Pritchard is the aggressive, one-on-one kind of cornerback that Collins and Cory Sanders like in the Pitt secondary.

247Sports rates Pritchard as the 118th-ranked cornerback and the 63rd-ranked recruit from Ohio. Neither Rivals nor On3 have rated him yet. But that will change as the next recruiting rankings are released.

Pritchard is the second of the four Pat Signals to officially announce his commitment, following Bryant. Pritchard and Bryant now join three-star Tayshawn Banks as the core of Pitt’s defensive back class.
