Riley Gaines continues to be one of the biggest advocates for women’s rights in sports, specially since the whole Lia Thomas controversy, after the transgender woman was allowed to compete in NCAA female events, and this time she appeard on OutKick’s “Hot Mic” with Jonathan Hutton and Chad Withrow.
She was specially vocal about the fact that Thomas won the competition instead of a hard working true woman, adding that she and other female athletes were forced to use the same locker room as the transgender athlete.
Riley Gaines has received support from many around sports during her fight to have transgender athletes banned from women’s sports, as it gives them an unfair advantage over born females.
Gaines claims to have been reached out by coaches, athletic directors, university presidents and fellow athletes, who thank her for her fight.
She’s calling them out now, saying they should be more public about their feelings, but assures they’re afraid of getting sued and unwilling to receive the backlash that will come with their stance.
Gaines expressed that in the beginning she felt humbled, as people acknowldged she was doing the right thing, but now she feels different.
“Now a year later, I do not feel honored when these people say this to me because I’ve realized that silence is complicity. These people know it’s wrong. They know that it’s not right or ethical or fair to allow men into women’s spaces and sports, yet they’re still not standing up to it.”
