Simran, India’s 24-year-old sprinter, effortlessly advanced to the women’s T12 100m semifinals at the Paris Paralympics on Wednesday, clocking a season’s best time of 12.17s.
The New Delhi native, who is the current world champion, led her heat with the guidance of her companion, Abhay Singh.
Despite being born prematurely with visual impairment, Simran showcased her exceptional talent by securing the second-best time overall among the 16 competitors.
She finished behind Cuba’s Omara Durand, the defending Paralympic champion and world record holder, who also achieved a season’s best performance of 11.87s.
Simran’s impressive run ensured her smooth progression to the semifinal round, scheduled for Thursday.
The T12 category is specifically designed for athletes with vision impairment, allowing them to compete on a level playing field.
