Epsom betting tips

12.50: Highland Avenue 5/4

Has a lot to do under William Buick to defy top-weight with Escobar, on just his second run in over a year.

But his reappearance behind Adayar after a 428 day-break was incredibly positive and of course that form looks great now if he can continue progressing.

He’s a lovely grey gelding by Dubawi who missed a fair amount of his four and five-year-old career from that break.

But there’s clearly more to come – from a horse that won a hattrick back in 2021 at three and went on a long international stint at Deauville, Longchamp and Meydan.

The latter of which he appeared at twice in early 2022 in Group 1 and 2 contests.

But Buick and Appleby do go well at Epsom, before Friday’s action they had a combined strike-rate of 44%.

1.30: Arrest 9/2

Arrest has been hammered in the market as the off approaches, as high as 13/2 earlier on in the week to just 9/2 on Friday afternoon.

Notably, only Military Order and Arrest have won over 1m4f though and are among the two safer bets in that regard having both won big Group contests when they tried this distance for the first time.

Arrest was incredibly impressive in the Group 3 Chester Vase Stakes winning by over six lengths under Frankie Dettori, who is having his last ever season in the UK as a jockey.

That win came at Chester, which is a difficult track to win at anyway yet it also came on soft ground.

Auguste Rodin has the potential of improving and bouncing back from a poor run, but Arrest is looking to build on a great win.

2.10: Prosperous Voyage 7/4 (NAP)

It could be a quick 1-2 for Dettori, if these tips come in as he takes a mount on Prosperous Voyage trained by Ralph Beckett in the Princess Elizabeth Stakes.

She reappeared for the season behind Via Sistina at Newmarket in the Dahlia on soft ground – but that ought to have gone against her and back on good to firm will give her a big chance.

This is a horse who has somehow only won twice but hit the post numerous times.

But her form is far superior, beating Inspiral in July in the Falmouth (Group 1), second in the 1000 Guineas and this looks slightly easier than those. Strong favourite.

4.30: Max Mayhem 5/1

First run for new trainer Kevin Philippart De Foy was a very successful one, beating HMS President by half a length on what was also his first run in Britain.

Hasn’t faced a track like this before this sharp but with the trainer and jockey in incredible form, as is the horse, he should go again well.
