AMHERST, Mass. — The UAlbany women’s basketball team suffered its worst shooting game of the season, as Massachusetts topped the Great Danes 73-48 in the first round of the WNIT Friday.
UAlbany, coming off its previous worst shooting game, when it shot 24.6% in losing the America East Tournament championship game to Vermont 38-36, was 16 of 69 from the field for 23.2%.
UMass (27-6) led 23-18 after a high-scoring first quarter, when UAlbany (22-12) shot 41.2% from the floor. Things regressed from there, however.
Sydney Taylor led UMass with 19 points. Angelique Ngalakulondi added a double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds. Atlantic 10 Player of the Year Sam Breen also had a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Kayla Cooper led UAlbany with 18 points and 11 rebounds, her team-high eighth double-double. Helene Haegerstrand added nine points.
