However, according to The New York Times, Washington is not prepared to authorise the transfer of American-made F-16s to Kyiv.
The Prime Minister admitted sending fighter jets to Ukraine “was not a straightforward thing”.
Britain currently does not have any F-16s. But other countries, including Denmark and the Netherlands, do.
Transferring the fighter jets to Ukraine would require a re-export licence.
A final decision on whether to provide Ukraine with F-16s, which are seen as a staple for modern air forces, rests with the US, as Ben Wallace admitted.
“What’s really important here is to signal to Russia that we as nations have no philosophical or principled objection to supplying Ukraine capabilities that it needs, depending on what is going on in the battlefield,” the Defence Secretary said on Wednesday in Berlin.
“This is up to the White House to decide whether it wants to release that technology.”
