LOGAN, Utah – Utah State women’s tennis defeated Montana, 5-2, on Monday at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club.
Montana began the day by securing the doubles point with wins at the first and third positions. On court two, graduate student Monique Burton and Lisa Küng posted a 6-2 win over their Grizzly opponents.
Utah State scored all their points during singles play in straight-set victories at the first, second, third, fifth, and sixth positions.
On courts two and three Küng and Burton both posted a pair of 6-3, 6-3 wins to get the Aggies on the board and take the lead against the Grizzlies.
At the first position, senior Zeynep Naz Ozturk posted a 7-5, 6-1 win over Montana’s Olivia Oosterbaan to put the Aggies one point away from the victory.
In the No. 5 spot, freshman Magdalena Nunez Pureco completed a 6-0, 6-0 shutout match to clinch the fifth victory for Utah State and give them a 2-game win streak leading into conference play.
In the sixth position, sophomore Indya Nespor continued her win streak with a 6-2, 6-3 win to complete the 5-2 victory.
Utah State (5-5) opens Mountain West play in Reno, Nevada, this weekend as it faces San José State (5-5, 0-0 MW) on Saturday, March 25, at 11 a.m. (MT) and then plays at Nevada (5-3, 0-0 MW) on Sunday, March 26, at 3 p.m. (MT).
