Kolkata/Berhampore: A youth committed suicide in Bankura of West Bengal on Sunday night after failing to bear the pain of India’s defeat to Australia at the World Cup final match. The deceased, Rahul Lohar (23), was from Beliator.
The cricket-lover worked at a sari shop but did not turn up at work so that he could enjoy watching the match with his friends on a big screen at a cinema hall. As India lost the match, Rahul returned home and hanged himself from the ceiling.
His family members discovered him hanging at around 11 pm. They brought down and rushed him to Beliator Hospital where he was declared dead. In Murshidabad a 65-year-old man died of cardiac arrest, fearing India’s loss while watching the match on TV in the evening.
The deceased, Sukumar Banerjee, was watching the match on TV at home in Beldanga Barua Colony. His wife Geeta said, “My husband was a diehard fan of cricketer Virat Kohli and the Indian cricket team. After Virat got out, he became frustrated and felt uneasy. He lamented that all hopes of a victory ended.”
According to her, Banerjee, sitting on the chair, fell unconscious immediately. He was rushed by his family and neighbours to a hospital where doctors declared him dead however.
