Here in Leicestershire we had been playing walking cricket for several months before the date on which Mac McKechnie claims to have invented the game (Sepsis almost killed me but I survived to invent a new sport, 20 March). Our group started playing in September 2018 under the banner of the Cities Changing Diabetes programme and has been meeting weekly ever since.
We are now sponsored by Leicestershire County Cricket Club and have played against teams from neighbouring counties. Most of us are over 60 and have benefited immensely on so many levels.
Good luck to Mr McKechnie and his group, but sorry – he did not invent walking cricket.
