- Dhoni has been more than impressive in IPL 2023.
Former India captain Kapil Dev did not mince his words while talking about Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni’s retirement rumours, suggesting everyone to be thankful for what he has done for Indian cricket while sharing his uncompromising take on the most talked about topic in India during the Indian Premier League (IPL). The former India allrounder and one of the greats of the game further went on to draw everyone’s attention to the fact that the 41-year-old has played for 15 years, and it isn’t possible for anyone to play all his life, highlighting his performance this year in the IPL that once again proved the importance of a skipper in the game of cricket.
“He has been playing IPL for 15 years. Why is it that we are only talking about Dhoni? He has done his work. What more do we want from him? Do we want him to play all his life? That is not going to happen. We should instead be thankful that he played for 15 years. Whether he plays next year or not, before departing he has played impressively. He may not have scored big runs but he led the team to the final and it shows what is the importance of a skipper in the game of cricket,” he told ABP News.
Dhoni is yet to make an official announcement on his retirement and while many believe this to be his last IPL season, the Impact Player rule might just go on to prolong his career in the cash-rich league. Dhoni has led his team with aplomb as Chennai Super Kings once again made it to the final of the IPL 2023.
The final that was scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 28, 2023, was postponed to Monday due to heavy rain.
