WASHINGTON – Following an impressive two-game road sweep of local D.C. rivals, George Washington women’s basketball returns to the Charles E. Smith Center to face off with Cal State Fullerton on Sunday. Tip-off between the two sides is slated for 12 noon, with live coverage available on ESPN+.
SEASON OF GIVING:
During Sunday’s game at the Smith Center, GW will be teaming up with Martha’s Table to help fight hunger during the holidays. Fans are encouraged to bring canned food donations that can be dropped off at donation boxes located on both sides of the concourse level.
The donations will be brought to Martha’s Table to assist those in need. The drive will begin an hour before tip-off.
DISTRICT DEFENDED:
GW continued its dominance over its local city rivals this week with a sweep of road games against Howard and American. The Buff & Blue’s victory at American was also historically significant, as it was the team’s first win at Bender Arena since 2014.
Following the two wins, the Colonials are now 67-50 (.572) all-time against opponents from Washington, D.C. and have racked up double digit wins against AU (16), Howard (12) and Georgetown (20).
FIRST QUARTER FIREPOWER:
At 3-1, George Washington is off to its best start to a season since 2016. A major key to GDUB’s early success has been its domination in the first quarter. Entering Sunday, the Colonials have owned the opening frame, shooting an average of 48 percent and outscoring opponents 82-57.
Individually, Mia Lakstigala leads all GW shooters in first quarter field goal percentage. The grad student is currently firing at a 45 percent clip in the opening 10 minutes.
SCOUTING THE TITANS:
Sunday afternoon will be the first-ever meeting between George Washington and Cal State Fullerton. The Titans, who will face off with Georgetown on Friday night, were picked ninth in this year’s Big West preseason poll.
Fujika Nimmo will be the player to watch for Cal State Fullerton. The senior enters this weekend averaging 22.5 points per game, which is the 22nd most in the NCAA.
