This looks sure to be run at a good clip and that will suit CHARLIE MASON who got outpaced over shorter at Bath before running on. The runner-up that day, Kiss And Run, has to be feared and there should be big efforts in Different Breed and Johnny Johnson.
There were stacks of promise in USUARIO AMIGO‘s debut performance last month at Newmarket. Whereas Haya, his chief rival on form, was turned over at evens on her reappearance at Bath. Wood Ditton fifth Gilded Water is feared most among those who have run but market strength behind the Gosden newcomer I Can’t Believe would be highly noteworthy.
The form standard they set is not that high but calculations nevertheless seem to be dominated by the AW seconds of Normandy Legend and Vibrato and last month’s Newbury sixth GALYX. Jack Channon’s runner may be open to the greatest improvement and gets the vote ahead of Normandy Legend.
This is not the most straightforward field to assess but COLLEGE CHOIR‘s major improvement in the course of her three AW qualifying races earns her the vote on this handicap and turf debut. Lucentio (second choice) was checked at an important stage in his handicap at Yarmouth and looks capable of being seriously involved, as does Free Speech if her AW performances are anything to go by.
Snuggle seems to like it here with both wins coming over C&D, the latest a fortnight ago. He is respected off 4lb higher as is Amazonian Dream who also has winning form on soft ground over C&D, but the vote goes to SERGEANT PEP, who ran well on good ground here three weeks ago and may be seen to have an even better effect on today’s slower ground. The unexposed Gemini Star, Lady Dreamer and Tiriac are others for the shortlist.
There are some unexposed sorts higher up the weights but handicap form points to the four at the foot of the card who finished either first or second last time out. Last week’s runner-up CALM WATERS gets the vote, having delivered that performance staying on over C&D and on good to soft, with Theworldsnotenough narrowly preferred to Magnificent Match and Interestnpenalties as the chief danger.
Not many of these are solid, but ON EDGE (nap) is a reliable sort who has winning form here and should be able to cope with the return to 5f and a soft surface. The main danger looks to be Willingly who remains weighted to her best but she relishes soft ground so should appreciate the likely conditions. Libra Tiger and Ali Jewels complete the shortlist.
Roscioli and DAPHNE MAY are fit from the AW and are well handicapped judged on turf form last year, including on soft. Dotties Star had her best result when second over C&D on heavy ground in October but has not raced this season, so it’s Dubai Immo who is third on the list given that his recent breakthrough on the AW came on his first attempt at this long a trip.
Both Paramer Angel and Storm Troupour have shown they retain enough ability to be effective at this lower level. Al-Hatab is likely to be still on the upgrade, though this trip is short of his best, he will strip fitter today. However, the James Owen team remains in good form under all codes, and his homebred VICTORIA gained plenty of experience last term. She’s starting this season off a very workable mark and with the benefit of her regular partner’s claim and a first-time hood, should break her maiden here.
