According to NBA Legend and the most dominant center of all time Shaquille O’Neal, San Antonio Spurs rising star Victor Wembanyama isn’t in the current top 30 NBA players and put him at 31, per Bleacher Report. For Shaq, Wemby won’t be a top player in the NBA until he can take his team to the playoffs.
“You’re good but not good enough… When your team doesn’t make the playoffs, when you’re that guy, and all the pressure’s on you, [it] don’t matter who you got with you, you have to win.”
Last year in his rookie season, Wemby led his team to a 22-60 record, averaging 21 points, 10.6 rebounds, four assists, three and a half blocks, and a steal per game.
He also was the unanimous Rookie of the Year, on the All-Defensive first team, and was second place for Defensive Player of the Year.
Wemby and the Spurs are in a better place than last year, with the signing of all-time great point guard Chris Paul, and the drafting of Stephon Castle. Paul will be a great mentor to Castle and Wemby, making sure Castle can take over after Paul leaves, and finding new ways for Wemby to score.
In reality, this team has the chance to be a playoff team, if Castle plays well and Wembanyama makes another leap from an already incredible start to his NBA career.
